…and that’s when it all started. But first I have to back up a few days to when the story ACTUALLY began. My good buddy Terry from California was flying out to Springfield, IL for his niece’s high school graduation. Since I live only a stone’s throw south in Troy, IL (just across the river from St Louis), he rang me up and we planned to hang out when he was in the Midwest. After his arrival, we had made a few trips on Hwy 55 between Springfield and my house. Along the way, we spied a place called Dave’s Classic Cars. Dave’s Classic Cars consists of not much more than a half acre or so of land with about 40 cars from the 70s & early 80s and a building with a large garage. We had passed this place a few times and considered stopping by to kick some tires…just to look. The day before Terry left town, we started driving down from Springfield so he could crash at my place for the night since his flight was out of St. Louis.
Well, on the way down, we finally decided to stop and see what was so classic about Dave’s cars. From the road, a rust/Limelight Green Raodrunner had caught my eye. So we pull over to check it out. We waded through Dave’s small lot of cars passing GTOs, Camaros, a few Mustangs, and Chevelles. Well the Roadrunner was pretty eaten up. Long cold winters out in the elements had really taken its toll. Hind sight being 20/20, we should have left then… LOL! So we look around some more. I stumble across this ‘72 Cuda. It wasn’t in too bad of shape, needed new fenders and other metal work for which e-Bodies were notorious for. We start talking to Dave. Before you know it, I’m the new owner of a ‘72 Plymouth Cuda! So much for just going to kick a few tires!!!
