Detroits New Musclecar Era, Is It Over?

big3Just when things were looking good for Musclecar fans, the Big 3 take a big hit.

The new GT500 Mustang, Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger are exactly what we have all been waiting for from Detroit.  I’ve always been a huge Mopar fan,  and I sure enjoy, and appreciate, the Chevy vs. Ford vs.  Mopar banter, but in this case I love all three of these cars.  They are true to their form, 2 doors, big engines, bold in their design.

Unfortunately, with the economy as it is, my fear is that this new era of design will end far too soon.  The pressures on automakers to produce econo-boxes surely does’nt help things.  Maybe the big3 just drug their feet too long. (although I’ll give Ford a pass on that statement being that they were wise enough to always offer an affordable V8 Mustang.)

If you are lucky to own one of these new era musclecars, you may just have a real future collectible on your hands. Hey thats it! I’ll tell the wife its an investment that we can’t pass up !  Your thoughts on the subject?

  1. The timing just stinks for this sort of thing. Just when things were getting interesting - 300 HP becoming commonplace if not now a little on the anemic side of the performance graph for production
cars, new technology fused with classic looks (I’ll take a rear straight axle anyday), and then BAM here comes the government to squash the muscle car II era AGAIN. I dont own one of the modern ones but if I did, I dont think I could resist driving it and save it in special hermetically sealed bag waiting for my Barret Jackson moment. I would likely drive it right to Lemon Grove, straight to the house of broken dreams and just blast the Alice in Chains.

  2. I think, if the US car companies surrvive, they will still build these types of cars, but in very limited supply and prices will be high (think corvette)
All this going “green” stuff is putting enormous pressure on the automakers. So stuff like this wont be for the “common” man. You could still get the 6cyl models I guess…lame!
